General Information About Us:The MYBB was formed in the Spring of 2010 to create an exciting musical opportunity for the devoted brass and percussion musician. This opportunity is designed to challenge brass players and percussionists to a new level of musicianship. In addition, members will have the opportunity to perform with the Massanutten Brass Band and internationally-recognized JMU Brass Band.
Who can join? The MYBB is open to all high school and college players regardless of age or experience. This is a place for players of a variety of levels to grow. We have a great mix of more and less experienced players.
Is there an audition? Membership is based on teacher recommendation, musical enthusiasm, and commitment. An audition is not required to play in the band. The registration forms (which ask you to include your experience) and the teacher evaluations are used for general seating purposes to balance the band. There are select seats in the band that do require an audition to earn those spots. The spots can vary a bit from year to year.
Principal Chairs & Solo Cornet seating:Seating for principal chairs and solo/front row cornet may require an audition depending on the pool of new and returning members each year. Seating placement will vary from year to year. Generally those auditions take prior to the opening rehearsal. More information soon...
Membership & Tuition Fees:Please see the registration form for updated information. Should a family have financial need, please contact MYBB via the Financial Assistance tab on the website. Students on free or reduced lunch automatically qualify for financial assistance.
Snack breaks! In brass banding we enjoy getting to know each other during a short break (with food, of course!). As part of the band membership, each family is responsible for providing water and snacks for one rehearsal (a second time is optional but always appreciated). There is also the option to make a donation of $15 to cover the cost, and have our volunteer snack coordinator shop and deliver for you! Students on free or reduced lunch are exempted from this expectation.
